01.10.17 | The Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) recently welcomed a delegation from Thailand for a two-day visit in Bremen. During their stay scientists from ZMT introduced research projects on eutrophication in tropical coastal ecosystems and habitat use of ecologically important fish and crustacean species in the Phang Nga Bay in Thailand.

The Thai representatives presented the research in different institutes which are part of the Department for Marine and Coastal Resources at the Ministry for Natural Resources and Environment.

On the basis of these presentations topics for future collaborations in the areas of biogeochemistry, seagrass and mangrove ecology as el as habitat linkages have been discussed.

The visit ended in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which further strengthen the cooperation in research and capacity development.

Dr. Tim Jennerjahn, head of the work group Ecological Biogeochemistry, organised the meeting and was happy with the outcome. “We have already been working with our Thai colleagues in the marine and geosciences for a number of years to develop our cooperation. With this MoU we have now created the foundation to increase our joint endeavours in the coming years.”
