01/09/2022 | At the beginning of the year, Bremen's daily newspaper Weser-Kurier published a commentary by Raimund Bleischwitz on the topic of "Ship recycling as Climate protection - Made in Bremen", which explained why Bremen would be a very suitable location for the recycling of ships wrecks.

Now the topic is gaining momentum: Inspired by the newspaper comment, the Bremen Green Party organised a roundtable discussion that also focused on the question of whether ship recycling could be established as an industry in Bremen.

Joining Raimund Bleischwitz at the table were Michael Hehemann, labor director of the ArcleorMittal in Bremen, Lukas Benner, a member of the Green Party in the Bundestag, Simeon Hiertz and Karsten Schumacher from the regional ship recycling company Leviathan.

TV station Sat1Regional reported on the event in its news program: https://www.sat1regional.de/umweltschonendes-schiffsrecycling-in-bremen/.

Raimund Bleischwitz says: "Ship recycling supports the steel industry in the transition to green steel. Bremen can set the course for the future with climate protection and industrial jobs. For beaches and coastal ecosystems in the south, there are other Blue Economy opportunities instead of questionable disposal of old ships."
