02/02/2021 | The Senckenberg-Museum Frankfurt will open the new thematic room "Coral Reef" in summer 2021 as part of a their new refurbishment. The Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) is contributing scientific know-how to the new exhibition.
Coral reefs are among the most biodiverse and productive ecosystems on our planet. They are home to about one-third of the animals living in the ocean. The new coral reef exhibition is designed to bring the colourful diversity of reef organisms to life. Over a period of three years, the habitat presentation of an Indo-Pacific coral reef will be implemented in close cooperation with ZMT. ZMT supports the project with the expertise of its coral reef researchers and with suggestions for implementation.
The focus is not only on the lifelike representation of reef organisms by day and night, but also on storytelling and interactions. The exhibition also addresses the existential threat to the reef ecosystem posed by climate change and other human impacts.
Over the next few years, the Senckenberg-Museum Frankfurt will be modernized and expanded to include four new sections: Man, Earth, Cosmos and Future. The new exhibition spaces "Marine Research" and "Deep Sea" already opened in September 2020.
