Research interests

We are interested in the intersection of data science and technology and the monitoring of coastal ecosystems. We have but special effort in developing automated machine learning workflows and tools to map and monitor coastal habitats, such as mangrove forests, coral reefs and tropical rocky reefs. We apply deep learning techniques to different sensor data, with special emphasis on underwater and airborne imagery. We are interested in developing and applying technological advances of sensor platforms in new environments (e.g. underwater multi- and hyperspectral imagery; aerial and on-ground LiDAR for mangrove forest characterization). Future directions might also include other signal types — such as audio — and other technologies — such as IoT.
