The main focus of the library collection is on biogeochemistry, coastal management, ecology, fisheries biology, marine ecosystems, and social sciences.

The MEDIA Unit (Management of Electronic Resources, Data, Information and Open Access) provides library services for ZMT staff members, guest scientists and students to use the scientific reference library to meet their research and information demands. The main focus of the library collection is on biogeochemistry, coastal management, ecology, fisheries biology, marine ecosystems, and social sciences.

The collection comprises about 9,000 monographs and offers access to more than 8,500 online journals and databases. The main part of the collection is available via Inter-Library Loan.

The ZMT library works closely together with national and international counterparts and is a member of the Common Library Network (GBV), and the International Association of Aquatic and Marine Science Libraries and Information Centers (IAMSLIC und EURASLIC).

The ZMT encourages its scientists to publish their research results open access and has implemented an Open Access Policy. The instute is also committed to sustainably store its research data and to provide such data for future research studies.

The MEDIA Unit supports and advises the ZMT staff in the implementation of Open Access activities also serves as the point of call regarding the Current Research Information System and reporting.

ZMT PUB

ZMT PUB is a platform for publications by ZMT affiliated authors or editors. As a digital repository it is designated for the preservation and management of academic publications. It enables the provision of statistical data as needed to meet ZMT’s reporting obligations with respect to supervisory boards.
The platform also serves as tool for submission of published work by ZMT affiliated scientists or students, who deposit items produced in the context of their work or study at ZMT.

ZMT PUB allows public access for searching and reviewing of all stored metadata. Full-text access is granted to the public for any items published in Open Access.

ZMT provides financial support towards Open Access Publishing for affiliated scientists in various ways. We are encouraging all researchers to publish in journals listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals, which includes only publications that meet a certain quality standard. Additional Open Access Publishing options are available through institutional contracts and memberships. The library provides guidance and can answer questions regarding funding.

ZMT PUB provides access to intellectual output of ZMT affiliated scientists, thus increases its visibility and research impact.
