The Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) is active in various international organisations dedicated to promoting cooperation in marine-related research, education and conservation programs. On a national level, ZMT participates in several research networks with different partners, too.

The participation of ZMT employees in international organizations contributes to the integration of German marine tropical ecology research within international programmes and the development of common strategies. In the face of global change, we define internationalisation as a cooperation task, which must be handled on equal terms with our partners.

On the following pages you find more information about ZMTs cooperations regarding

  1. National memberships and networks
  2. International organisations and networks

Additionally, bilateral cooperation agreements and MoU's exist between the ZMT and several research institutions in South America, Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. The institute is a focal point not only for scientists, but also for government agencies and companies to exchange expert knowledge in the field of tropical marine ecology.
