Sabrin's thesis investigates the diversity of microbial and viral communities associated with the gills of Caribbean hamlet reef fishes (Hypoplectrus spp.) using genome-resolved metagenomics. Her work provides new insights into fish gills as specialized microbial ecosystems, including the discovery of prevalent bacterial lineages with potential chemosynthetic capabilities and the characterization of diverse bacteriophage communities associated with gill microbiomes.
