We aim to better understand how mangrove ecosystems influence coastal carbon cycling, ecosystem functioning, and coastal protection under environmental change. Particular focus lies on ecological and biogeochemical processes, resilience to sea level rise and extreme events, and how mangrove dynamics and ecosystem services can be represented in Earth system and regional ecosystem models.
