Out now: The latest ZMT newsletter

The new edition of the ZMT newsletter  is out now bringing together stories from our research, international collaborations and activities in the tropics and beyond. One of the highlights of this issue is ZMT’s 35th anniversary. International collaboration has been at the heart of the institute since its beginnings and continues to shape our research on tropical coastal ecosystems today. The newsletter looks back at the anniversary celebrations and at the global partnerships that have accompanied ZMT along the way.

Another focus is plastic pollution in the ocean. We take a closer look at research into a new generation of biodegradable plastics and ask how innovative materials could become part of the solution to the growing problem of marine plastic waste.

The new issue also introduces COLDEMAR, a Colombian-German knowledge platform for tropical marine biodiversity and climate change. ZMT’s Sonia Bejarano and Fernando Zapata from Universidad del Valle talk about their plans to build a long-term bridge between researchers in Colombia and Germany – from joint research projects to training opportunities for early-career scientists.

The news section provides further glimpses into recent research and activities at ZMT. Topics range from new international projects on climate adaptation and coastal biodiversity to sustainable marine food sources and an award for outstanding research on groundwater.
