07.08.2018 | Matthias Birkicht has celebrated his 25th work anniversary at the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) today. He is one of the founding staff members of the institute which was started by Prof. em. Dr. Gotthilf Hempel in 1991. The graduate chemist works as an engineer in the chemical and biological laboratories. In addition to method development and technical training, his responsibilities include quality assurance in the laboratory as well as the preparation and participation in expeditions of the institute – both in Germany and abroad.

Scientific Director, Prof. Dr. Hildegard Westphal, congratulated and thanked him today in front of ZMT staff. Reflecting on the institute’s history she said: “ZMT started more than 25 years ago with a clear mission which still holds true today. Matthias Birkicht is one of the dedicated pioneers of ZMT and he has driven this mission from the start. In the 25 years of his dedicated employment with us he has very much embodied the spirit of ZMT, pushing new ideas especially in the area of capacity development.”

Matthias Birkicht said: “It is a great pleasure working here at ZMT. For me this is not only a job, it is a passion and the people here are not only colleagues, they are friends.”
