Can I fly a drone for my research activity?

Abstract:
A new regulatory framework is affecting all drones activities: the EU 2019/947 regulation, which enters into force on January 2021. Some professional figures are foreseen by the Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) regulation: for example, the UAS Operator and the UAS Remote Pilot. There are responsibilities for both figures. ZMT is in the process of becoming a UAS operator for low risk operations abiding by the EU 2019/947 regulation. In this presentation, the ZMT roadmap to become a UAS Operator is presented together with a description of part of the training necessary to ZMT researchers intending to use drone platforms in their research. This is a non-scientific presentation, aimed at informing WGs and researchers that are using or are thinking of using drones in their scientific research activities.
