08/03/2024 | From mid-March, Bremen's House of Science will be presenting a photo exhibition by two ZMT alumnae. Lisa Röpke and Pia Lewin show the fascinating beauty of seashores with their photographs from a bird's eye view.
Dr. Lisa Röpke was in Australia at the AIMS (Australian Institute of Marine Science) for her doctoral thesis at the ZMT, where she researched innovative antifouling coatings for potential use in coral reef restoration. Pia Lewin created in her master's thesis at ZMT 3D models of coral reefs in Palau using drone photography and investigated how accurate these models are and whether this method can be used to draw conclusions about the occurrence of reef fish.
Their passion for the marine ecosystem inspired the two scientists and enthusiastic photographers to capture the beauty and status of many coastal locations in pictures. Their exhibition "Coastal colours and shapes from a bird's eye view" shows a selection of drone photographs that they were able to take on private trips and during various research stays in places such as the Philippines, Palau, Australia, the Mediterranean, Denmark and the North and Baltic Seas. "With our pictures from a bird's eye view, we want to illustrate the diverse beauty of the seas and coasts, which are so close to all of our hearts and increasingly in need of protection," emphasize the two marine biologists.
The opening of the exhibition will take place on March 14 at 5 pm in the Bremen House of Science (Haus der Wissenschaft, Sandstraße 4/5). It will be on display until June 17, 2024. Admission is free.
