The Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) GmbH (www.leibniz-zmt.de) is an independent research and teaching institute that provides scientific knowledge for the protection and sustainable use of tropical coastal ecosystems. The working group Geoecology and Carbonate Sedimentology is (subject to release of funds) seeking to fill an opening for a postdoctoral researcher starting October 1st, 2026 for 24 months.

Postdoctoral researcher (gn)

Your tasks:

  • Processing sediment samples from the Red Sea (already available)
  • Taxonomic identification of benthic foraminifera and other taxa
  • Interpretation of data in the context of larger projects
  • Cooperation with international partners
  • Responsible for preparing publications with the project team
  • Supervision of student assistants and BSc/MSc students in the context of the projects

Requirements:

  • MSc in biology or earth sciences
  • PhD in carbonate sedimentology
  • Strong background in benthic foraminiferal taxonomy
  • Strong background in carbonate depositional systems
  • Interdisciplinary experience or openness
  • Knowledge of Neogene and Quaternary carbonate depositional systems
  • Experience with carbonate sediment analysis
  • Strong knowledge of benthic foraminifera taxonomy
  • Ability to work in a team
  • International experience
  • Good written/spoken English skills
  • Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration

Details of position:

Salary will be paid according to the German TV-L (EG 13). The position is available for full-time employment starting October 1st, 2026 for 24 months. The fixed term is for academic qualification according to § 2 (1) WissZeitVG (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz). Accordingly, only applicants who still have the relevant qualification periods according to § 2 (1) WissZeitVG can be considered. The position is intended to provide further academic qualification.
